Según investigaciones anteriores, la frotación en primates disminuiría la carga ectoparasitaria y reforzaría los lazos sociales dentro de un grupo familiar, contribuyendo a mantener el bienestar general del individuo. La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo describir el comportamiento de frotación en 16 individuos de la especie machín negro (Sapajus macrocephalus) tomando como punto de evaluación dos recintos en cautividad denominados “isla chica” e “isla grande” de la zona selva del Parque de las Leyendas-FBB, en LimaPerú. Las observaciones fueron registradas a través del método animal focal. Resultados: Se identificaron las frecuencias de frotación con cebollas rojas en ocho (8) regiones corporales de S. macrocephalus, donde la región “Grupa y espalda baja” fue la más frotada para ambos sexos. Asimismo, se determinó la existencia de la frotación social en ambas islas, donde los individuos machos y los individuos pertenecientes a los rangos de edad “maduro” y “joven adulto” presentaron el mayor tiempo de desarrollo del comportamiento. Posteriormente, se evaluó si las variables sexo, edad y tamaño grupal son factores intervinientes en el desarrollo del comportamiento de frotación, arrojando como resultados que no existen estadísticamente diferencias significativas (p-value > 0.05) entre sexos para el desarrollo de la frotación, pero si diferencias significativas (p-value < 0.05) entre los rangos etarios “geronte” y “subadulto” para una de las islas y entre los tamaños grupales investigados. Finalmente, se proponen algunas recomendaciones para ampliar la investigación en el comportamiento de primates en cautividad.The rubbing or anointing behavior is part of the wide behavioral diversity of birds and mammals and has been recorded in numerous ethological studies for both free-living and captive animals. According to previous research, anointing in primates would reduce the ectoparasitic load and strengthen social ties within a family group, contributing to maintaining the general welfare of the individual. The objective of this research was to describe the rubbing behavior of 16 individuals of black capuchin (Sapajus macrocephalus) species, evaluating two captive enclosures called "isla chica" and "isla grande" in the jungle area of Parque de las Leyendas-FBB Zoo, in Lima-Peru. The observations were recorded through the focal animal method. Results: Frequencies of anointing with red onions were identified in eight (8) body regions of S. macrocephalus, where the "Rump and lower back" region was the most rubbed for both sexes. Likewise, the existence of social anointing was determined on both islands, where male individuals presented the longest display of behavior. Subsequently, it was evaluated whether the variables sex, age, and group size are intervening factors in the development of anointing behavior, yielding as results that there are no statistically significant differences (p-value > 0.05) between sexes for the development of anointingg, but there were significant differences (p-value < 0.05) between the "older" and "subadult" age ranges for one of the islands and between the group sizes investigated.
