Materiales y métodos: se realizó una investigación cualitativa no experimental, descriptiva y transversal, analizando 2,400 artículos publicados entre 2014 y 2024 en bases de datos como PubMed, SciELO y Scopus. Tras aplicar el método PRISMA, se seleccionaron 15 estudios enfocados en la automedicación y el uso indiscriminado de antibióticos en boticas de Perú y América Latina. Resultados: revelan que la resistencia bacteriana limita los tratamientos convencionales, prolonga enfermedades, aumenta la mortalidad y genera altos costos sanitarios al requerir medicamentos más caros y terapias prolongadas. Esto representa un desafío significativo para la salud pública. Conclusión: la automedicación y el uso indiscriminado de antibióticos contribuyen al desarrollo de resistencia antimicrobiana, dificultando el tratamiento efectivo de infecciones comunes y generando riesgos para la población.

This seeks to minimize bacterial resistance and ensure the effectiveness of antimicrobial treatments. Materials and methods: a non-experimental, descriptive and cross- sectional qualitative research was carried out, analyzing 2,400 articles published between 2014 and 2024 in databases such as PubMed, SciELO and Scopus. After applying the PRISMA method, 15 studies were selected that focused on self-medication and the indiscriminate use of antibiotics in pharmacies in Peru and Latin America. Results: they reveal that bacterial resistance limits conventional treatments, prolongs diseases, increases mortality and generates high health costs by requiring more expensive medications and prolonged therapies. This represents a significant challenge for public health.
