description El shock séptico produce más del 60% de las muertes en los pacientes críticos, a pesar de las mejoras introducidas en la asistencia a estos pacientes. Es por ello, que se requiere conocimientos suficientes sobre las entidades patológicas que con mayor frecuencia se le asocian a dicha patología. A su vez, se debe estudiar con especial cuidado los condicionantes que generan fenómenos y situaciones a las que la persona se enfrenta luego de superada la enfermedad y las consecuencias que contribuyen al deterioro de la calidad de vida. Es por ello que en el presente trabajo describimos la definición, la fisiopatología y manejo del shock séptico; centrándonos en los cuidados de enfermería plasmados en un plan de cuidados (guía de intervención de enfermería según dominios), con el objetivo de dar tratamiento oportuno, seguro, y cálido, en beneficio del paciente y con la participación activa de la familia.

At the same time, it is necessary to study with special care the conditions that generate the phenomena and situations to which the person faces after the overcoming of the disease and the consequences that contribute to the deterioration of the quality of life.
