description La presente investigación se orientó principalmente al diseño de una propuesta integral que contribuya a la optimización de l manejo de los residuos sólidos, partiendo de un estudio diagnóstico sobre la situación actual del Hospital Edmundo Escomel EsSalud. La investigación se centró en identificar las principales deficiencias presentes en los diversos procesos involucrados en el manejo d e estos residuos en el ámbito institucional . La población de estudio incluyó todas las unidades de atención al paciente del mencionado nosocomio, ubicado en la ciudad de Arequipa, escenario en el cual se efectuó la recolección de datos durante el año 2023. Para ello, se empleó un enfoque metodológico de tipo descriptivo, utilizando como técnicas principales la observación directa y el reconocimiento exploratorio con fines de recolección de información relevante. Los instrumentos aplicados incluyero n una guía de observación, listas de verificación (checklists) y entrevistas no estructuradas dirigidas a las partes implicadas en la organización y control de residuos . Los resultados obtenidos evidenciaron que el Hospital Edmundo Escomel EsSalud no realizó de manera adecuada la etapa final del almacenamiento de los restos sólidos generados hospitalarios durante el año 2023. De igual forma, se evidenció que el espacio destinado para dicho almacenamiento resultó ser insuficiente ante la cantidad de residuos generados diariamente.
