| Sumario: | These lines were pronounced by the author on February 7, 2021 in commemoration of the 188th anniversary of the birth of Ricardo Palma, in an event organized by the Institute that carries his name and is the academic center of the Ricardo Palma University. The author does not refer to the writer’s biography, nor does he analyze his Peruvian traditions, his links with politics or his work as a journalist. He just takes a general look to rescue Palma’s importance in our literature and culture in general by supporting the classic nature he holds.
