The purpose of this article is to describe the relationships that Ricardo Palma had with Catholicism. In ideological terms, he was a convinced liberal and, in that sense, a critic of religious institutions. However, it is necessary to establish a distinction: Palma understood very well the importance of the religious attitude, which he represented in his famous Peruvian Traditions; and simultaneously he was a persistently and staunchly anticlerical, criticizing and mocking religious ideas and practices.

During the first third of the 20th century, the conservative sectors were involved in the intellectual discussion of national affairs. Among different ideas, these sectors came to embraced Fascism, the totalitarian ideology from the interwar period in Europe. This article analyzes the career and thoughts of two prominent scholars from the era who were seduced by Fascism: historian José de la Riva Agüero and playwright Felipe Sassone. It also examines the significance of the distance –physical and/or mental– from their country, to think of a Peru that seemed alien to them, and doing so from a visibly foreign perspective to the national reality and social dynamics in the 1930s. At the end, these two ways of conceiving Fascism revealed the intellectual inability from a sector to understand their country, and led to their exclusion from the political debate.

In this article, the author explains how the failure of the Tupacamarista project would open the way for the ideas and actions of the Creoles, and these, through the privileged use of writing, would dominate the world of ideas and, therefore, hence, of ideological projects. Following the route of the transformations of the Creole group, he analyzes its socio-cultural composition and its ideas. The pre-1781 indigenous would no longer have the possibility of resurgence, even when the Creole contingent loses consistency, that is, its capacity as a political subject would no longer be irrelevant. From the middle of the 20th century, the ideological field to be conquered would be disputed by what was left of the small Creole contingent and by the diffuse elements left by the process of postinternal migration cholification and post-Velasquista reforms. Later, Fujimori politics would modify the...
