Sumario: | The objective was to evaluate the effect of an educational intervention on the knowledge of Human Cystic Echinococcosis (EQH) in a rural school of the primary level in Junín - Peru. The quasi-experimental study began with the training of teachers in topics related to EQH, in addition to training for the development of learning sessions. The educational intervention was carried out in the second educational two-month period of 2019. Three evaluations were carried out during the study, at the beginning (pre-test), at the end of the two-month period (post- test 1) and four weeks after the previous one (post-test 2). Students from first to third grade were evaluated with a 5-question instrument and those from fourth to sixth grade with one of 10 questions. The grades were summarized using measures of central tendency and dispersion. The difference between the test scores was evaluated with the Friedman Rank Analysis of Variance test and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test. The scores obtained in the tests report positive effects of the intervention on students from second to sixth grade. Difference between the score of the post-test 1 and 2 was found only in third-grade students, being lower in post-test 2. However, the evaluation of the overall performance of the grade varied for post-test 2, showing that the retention of knowledge it was affected by the degree of study. We conclude that the application of EQH educational sessions was efficient but requires reinforcement to perpetuate the knowledge over time. |
