The aim of this experiment was to demonstrate the benefits of the mechanized pasture seeding and, particularly, the need for P fertilization and chemical weed control. The effect of three establishment treatments were evaluated using commercial size land areas. The treatments were: (A) conventional mechanized establishment, (B) conventional mechanized establishment plus P fertilization and (C) conventional mechanized establishment plus P fertilization plus chemical weed control, on seedling emergence, height and cover growth and dry biomass accumulation of a Brachiaria brizantha - Centrosema macrocarpum pasture. Unexpectedly, the effects of P fertilization and control weed with glyphosate were non significant, yet, in some cases, treatment (C) performed poorer. Seedling emergence for all treatments was notably poor, probably due to a low quality seed, insect carrying or runoff losses. Even though, the B. brizantha - C. macrocarpum pasture accumulated dry biomass representing 30% of the total vegetation in a 189 day period.La tecnología de establecimiento de pasturas en Ucayali no ha sido adecuadamente transferida, debido en parte a la ausencia de ensayos demostrativos de tamaño comercial. Con el objetivo de demostrar el potencial de la siembra mecanizada y la necesidad de la fertilización con P y el control de malezas, se estimó el efecto de los tratamientos (A) establecimiento mecanizado convencional, (B) establecimiento mecanizado más fertilización con P y (C) establecimiento mecanizado más fertilización con P y control de malezas con glyphosato, sobre la velocidad de emergencia de las plántulas, crecimiento en altura y cobertura y acumulación de biomasa seca de una pastura asociada de Brachiaria brizantha con Centrosema macrocarpum a escala comercial. Contrariamente a lo esperado, los efectos de la fertilización con P y la aplicación de herbicida sobre la emergencia, el crecimiento y la acumulación de biomasa no fueron significativos; incluso, en algunos casos, el tratamiento (C) fue marginalmente inferior a los otros dos. La emergencia (plan tas/m2) fue notablemente pobre para todos los tratamientos, condición atribuible a la baja calidad de la semilla, al acarreo por insectos o a la pérdida por escorrentía. A pesar de la pobre emergencia, la acumulación de biomasa por B.
