A structured questionnaire was designed and facilitated with 11 items, collecting information from the variable, and a survey was conducted on 84 students in a Private University. Results: According to the demographic factor, 100% of the respondents used self-medication, the highest percentage was female with 84.5% and the age group between 18 and 25 years old with 64.3%, 78.6% are single individuals. Regarding the economic factor, according to students who perform some job, there is a tendency to self-medication in 59.5%, 31% of students receives an acceptable monthly salary and 54.8% are incorporated into a social health security program. In terms of the social factor, students tend to go to the pharmaceutical establishment in 57% after health problems affect them, 42.9% of students take into account the suggestion of the care staff, 83.3% buy medicine there. 56% of individuals acquired drugs that were showed by television advertising. Conclusion: Self-medication is a common practice and it includes demographic, economic and social factors.Objetivo: Determinar las características respecto a la automedicación en los estudiantes de enfermería en una universidad privada en San Juan de Lurigancho, 2017. Materiales y Métodos: Se decidió realizar una investigación descriptiva, observacional prospectiva de corte transversal. Se diseñó y facilitó un cuestionario estructurado con 11 ítems recolectando información a partir de la variable, aplicándose una encuesta a 84 estudiantes en una universidad privada. Resultados: Respecto al factor demográfico, el mayor porcentaje correspondió al sexo femenino con 84.5% y al grupo etario de 18-25 años de edad con 64.3%, el 78.6% son solteros. Respecto al factor económico, los estudiantes se automedican en un 59,5% en el grupo de aquellos que trabajan, el 31% perciben un salario mensual aceptable y el 54.8% está incorporado en un servicio de salud. En cuanto al factor social, se evidencia que el 57% ante un problema de salud recurre inicialmente al establecimiento farmacéutico, el 42.9% toma en cuenta la sugerencia del personal de atención y el 83.3% lo compra en dicho lugar. El 56% adquirió medicamentos que percibió por medio de publicidad televisiva.
