Higher university education institutions are not immune to this phenomenon. This problem can occur in the relationship between students (male and female) and the teacher-student relationship. The purpose of this study is to analyze the violence that occurs against women in universities. The research is of a qualitative type and of a phenomenological design, methodologically developed by means of an interview-type instrument validated through a prior triangulation, which was applied to focus groups of students of both genders in three universities. The type of sampling was for convenience and was represented by 107 students. The results show that there is a non-generalized incidence of gender violence by male students and teachers, which is more significant in the indicators: indirect and covert coercion; which is based on the exercise of power by the male student of higher cycles and teachers. The conclusions corroborate the existence of gender violence, the occurrence of which is determined by the exercise of power by male students and teachers.La situación de violencia de género que muestra nuestra sociedad se refleja también en nuestras instituciones como es el caso de la universidad. Las instituciones de educación superior universitaria no escapan a este fenómeno. Este problema puede ocurrir en la relación entre estudiantes (varón y mujer) y la relación docente-estudiante. El presente estudio tiene como propósito analizar la violencia que se suscita contra la mujer en las universidades. La investigación es de tipo cualitativa y de diseño fenomenológico desarrollado, metodológicamente, mediante un instrumento del tipo entrevista validada a través de una triangulación previa, la cual fue aplicada a grupos focales de estudiantes de ambos géneros en tres universidades. El tipo de muestreo fue por conveniencia y estuvo representado por 107 estudiantes. Los resultados muestran que existe incidencia no generalizada de la violencia de género ejercida por estudiantes varones y docentes, la cual es más significativa en los indicadores: coacción indirecta y coacción encubierta; que se sustenta en el ejercicio del poder de parte del estudiante varón de ciclos superiores y de docentes.
