The results projected the level of affectation of the inmates by showing that they present a severe level between 35.94% and 45.31% of learned hopelessness in its three factors, in turn, the age group that predominates is that of 46 to 60 years, showing that part of those evaluated think that they will not be able to defend themselves and lose hope considering their life sentence by a legal body.Keywords: Learned hopelessness, life imprisonment, affective, cognitive, volitional. La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo identificar los niveles de desesperanza aprendida en sentenciados a cadena perpetua. Se evaluó mediante la “escala de desesperanza de Beck” tomando en cuenta los factores: afectivo, cognitivo y volitivo. La investigación tuvo un diseño no experimental, descriptivo, trasversal, conformado por una población censal de 64 internos sentenciados a cadena perpetua en Chiclayo. Los resultados proyectaron el nivel de afectación de los internos al mostrar que presentan un nivel severo entre el 35.94 % a 45,31 % de desesperanza aprendida en sus tres factores, a su vez el grupo etáreo que predomina es el de 46 a 60 años, mostrando que parte de los evaluados piensan que no podrán defenderse y pierden la esperanza considerando su sentencia perpetua por parte de un órgano jurídico.Palabras clave: Desesperanza aprendida, cadena perpetua, afectivo, cognitivo, volitivo.
