Disputa por la ciudadanía en el espacio escolar de las élites: análisis desde la noción de campo

Although Bourdieu’s theory has been widely applied to the study of the Chilean school system, the concept of field has been less explored in relation to dynamics of stratification and resistance. This article examines the contestation over the ideal type of citizen within the field of Chilean elite schools, focusing on the contrast between a private and a public institution. Based on a qualitative study, the analysis identifies divergent citizenship projects: one, promoted by the private school, oriented towards a «pop» citizenship disengaged from national concerns and aligned with global issues; the other, fostered by the public school, grounded in an abstract notion of national well-being and emphasizing local community participation. This struggle illustrates how public education can activate forms of resistance linked to ideals of well-being and democratic participation. The article seeks to contribute to a more nuanced understanding of the analytical potential of the concept of field.
