There is growing interest in perspectives capable of apprehending the complexity of the urban in its material, social, and symbolic dimensions. This article proposes a reinterpretation of urban policy through the sociological contributions of Pierre Bourdieu, with emphasis on the articulation between physical space, social space, and appropriated physical space. The article focuses on the proposal of mobilizing Bourdieusian theory for the analysis of Master Plans beyond their understanding as urbanistic instruments, situating them as processes of material and symbolic struggles over urban space. As an empirical case, the study highlights the revision of the Master Plan of Porto Alegre, arguing that economic and technical power is converted into political power, producing spatial profits and exclusions in the city. A Bourdieusian reading reveals the Master Plan as an arena of disputes that materializes social hierarchies in urban territory.
