Sumario: | University students in their daily activity experience a diverse range of academic responsibilities. including main duties, such as: projects, tasks and tests. Situations in which the student might experience anxiety, insecurity, lack of control, fear of failure, etc. which may not be perceived by the student, and that if that stress is not controlled and moderate appropriately it could have negative effects on academic performance, and in severe cases it could lead to the university academic failure (1). The main objective of this research study is to apply a non-invasive and inexpensive method to measure salivary amylase, which is considered a biomarker of stress by the interaction between the endocrine, immune and nervous acting adrenergic response. We proceeded to assess levels of variation in saliva in order to perceive stress in students at the beginning and end of the assessment for the subject of Nursing in Adult Health at the School of Nursing of the Universidad Católica de Santa Maria. The results showed 931.85 AU salivary amylase activity in the bioassay baseline in the control group, and 926.83 AU in the experimental group. The statistical comparison showed no statistical differences (P>0.05). After applying the stressor are found concentrations of salivary amylase AU 982.35 in the experimental group and control group levels remained partially in AU 933.64. By applying the Student t test were found statistically significant differences (P <0.05) in both concentrations. That is, it has shown an effect of the stressor on salivary amylase students of the School of Nursing. Therefore, we can conclude the following: that salivary amylase is a good indicator of stress in student academic area. |
