| Sumario: | Objective: To determine the characteristics of use and factors associated with the demand of the female condom in users of the first level centers health of the Callao Region. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study. The population was made up of users of health facilities of the first level of care of the Ventanilla Health Network locates in the Callao Region, during the years 2017-2018. The sample was not probabilistic, composed of users of family planning service who decided to use the female condom as a contraceptive method. Results: Twenty users of the female condom with an average age of 37.4 years (SD = 8.1, Range: 23 to 50). 75% of women who opted for the female condom as their contraceptive method of choice made the use of the method effective. The factors associated with the use of the female condom were the monthly family income (p = 0.007), the information received on the benefits of the female condom (p = 0.015) and the product demonstrating (p = 0.005). Conclusions: A high proportion of women who opted for the female condom made the use effective. The factors associated with the use of the method were family income, the information received on the benefits of the female condom and the product demonstrating.
