This aims to contribute to a better understanding of the inception of this type of lodging in Latin American countries, the associated issues, and the conditions of their development.Se analiza la implementación de las primeras medidas de fomento, del Estado peruano, para la hotelería desde la óptica del interés por los lugares naturales y las necesidades de hospedaje de la ciudad de Lima a inicios del siglo XX. Se presentan los resultados concretos de dichas medidas, sus características, así como el surgimiento de los primeros hoteles considerados modernos.
