RESULTS: Eighty-seven percent of interventions was conducted by the resident. The average time of surgery was 122 minutes. A womb of up to 18 cm was extracted. There were no intraoperative complications and postoperative complications were urinary tract infection (13%) and infection dome (8.7%). In the histopathological analysis, the most common finding was chronic cervicitis (35%). CONCLUSIONS: vaginal hysterectomy by Pelosi modified technique is a safe procedure that shows in our environment similar to those reported in the literature benefits.OBJETIVO: Conocer los beneficios de la aplicación de una nueva técnica operatoria para histerectomía marginal. DISEÑO: Estudio descriptivo transversal. LUGAR: Hospital Nacional Cayetano Heredia. MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: Pacientes intervenidas con la técnica operatoria de histerectomía vaginal modificada por Pelosi, entre junio de 1998 y mayo del 2001. RESULTADOS: Ochenta y siete por ciento de las intervenciones fue realizada por el médico residente. El tiempo promedio de la cirugía fue 122 minutos. Se extrajo un útero de hasta 18 cm. No hubo complicaciones intraoperatorias y las complicaciones postoperatorias fueron infección de la vía urinaria (13%) e infección de cúpula (8,7%). En el análisis anatomopatológico el hallazgo más frecuente fue cervicitis crónica (35%).
