Sumario:Objective: To know the use of contraceptives, contraceptive mix and unmet demand in women with pre-existing diseases attended at the Alberto Sabogal Hospital in 2018. Material and Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional and prospective study was carried out in July and August 2018, the population was 309 women attended in ten specialties, the sampling was probabilistic and stratified, the technique was the survey and the instrument, a questionnaire prepared by the researchers. The variable was "use of contraceptive methods in women with pre-existing diseases". Results: Among the 309 women; 45.3% were informed of the risk of pregnancy, 30.1% used some contraceptive method and 21.4% received contraceptive care. Of 253 women who reported being sexually active, 160 used modern methods (63.2%), 40 women (15.8%) natural methods, and 54 used no method (20.9%). The contraceptive mix reported that 30.4% used a male condom, injection (12.3%), and sterilization (8.3%). Conclusions: 63.2% of women with pre-existing diseases treated at the Alberto Sabogal Hospital use barrier contraceptive methods, however, 20.9% of women have unsatisfied demand in family planning, that is, of 100 women, 21 have risk of an unwanted pregnancy with all its implications.
