Topiramate is a new generation antiepileptic pharmacological agent, used for the treatment of partial and primary tonic-clonic seizures in adults and children, in monotherapy or in combination with other drugs, and as prophylaxis of migraine in adults, as well as for alcoholism, obesity, and bipolar disorder among others. In recent years, numerous cases of congenital malformations and intrauterine growth retardation in neonates of mothers exposed to this drug during pregnancy have been published. We present the case of a fetus with agenesis of both upper limbs in a mother exposed to topiramate during the first trimester, without other associated factors or another possible causal agent detected.
