description This study aimed to characterize the repertoire of educational social skills of parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and to relate it to their children’s social skills. 62 parents /caregivers of children between 3 and 12 years old attended in Specialized Rehabilitation Services of a micro-region in Zona da Mata /Minas Gerais, Brazil participated. The Social Educational Skills Inventory (IHSE-Del Prette) and the Brazilian version of Social Skills Inventory, Behavior Problems and Academic Competence of Children (SSRS) were used. A positive correlation was obtained between the general scores of the two instruments and most factors. The parents’ ability to talk /dialogue proved to be strong predictors of children’s social skills. The implications of the results for interventions with parents of children with autism are discussed.

Participaron 62 padres /cuidadores de niños entre 3 y 12 años de edad en los Servicios de Rehabilitación Especializados de una micro región en la Zona da Mata / Minas Gerais, Brasil. Se utilizaron el Inventario de Habilidades Educativas Sociales (IHSE-Del Prette) y la versión brasileña del Inventario de Habilidades Sociales, Problemas de Comportamiento y Competencia Académica de Niños (SSRS). Se obtuvo una correlación positiva entre las puntuaciones generales de los dos instrumentos y la mayoría de los factores. La capacidad de los padres para hablar/diálogo demostró ser fuertes predictores de las habilidades sociales de los niños. Se discuten las implicaciones de los resultados para las intervenciones con padres de niños con autismo.Cette étude visait à caractériser le répertoire des compétences sociales éducatives des parents d’enfants atteints de troubles du spectre autistique et à le relier aux compétences sociales de leurs enfants. 62 parents/tuteurs d’enfants âgés de 3 à 12 ans ont participé aux Services de Réadaptation Spécialisés d’une microrégion de Zona da Mata/Minas Gerais, Brésil. L’inventaire des compétences éducatives sociales (IHSE-Del Prette) et la version brésilienne de l’inventaire des compétences sociales, problèmes de comportement et compétences scolaires des enfants (SSRS) ont été utilisés. Une corrélation positive a été obtenue entre les scores généraux des deux instruments et la plupart des facteurs. La capacité des parents à parler /dialogue s’est avérée être de solides prédicteurs des compétences sociales des enfants. Les implications des résultats pour les interventions auprès des parents d’enfants autistes sont discutées.Este estudo teve como objetivo geral caracterizar o repertório de habilidades sociais educativas de pais de crianças com Transtorno do Espectro Autista e relacionar com as habilidades sociais dos seus filhos. Participaram 62 pais/cuidadores, de crianças entre 3 e 12 anos atendidas em Serviços Especializados de Reabilitação de uma microrregião da Zona da Mata/Minas Gerais, Brasil. Foram utilizados o Inventário de Habilidades Sociais Educativas (IHSE-Del Prette) e o Inventário de Habilidades Sociais, Problemas de Comportamento e Competência Acadêmica de Crianças (SSRS). Obteve-se correlação positiva entre escores gerais dos dois instrumentos e a maioria dos fatores. As habilidades de conversar/dialogar dos pais mostraram-se fortes preditoras das habilidades sociais das crianças.
