In the aftermath of the Ecuadorian- Peruvian war of 1941 and in the context of the renewal of the rubber extraction, the fourth centenary proved to be unprecedented in the production of speeches on Peruvian identity and the Amazon. This work shows how an attempt was made to incorporate the Amazonia into the national identity by reviving and updating clichés about the jungle.En 1941, el presidente del Perú Manuel Prado declaró por decreto oficial que el año 1942 se dedicara a la celebración del IV Centenario del Descubrimiento del Río Amazonas, hecho que calificó de “coronación de integración de nuestra nacionalidad”. En un contexto de fin de conflicto contra Ecuador y de renovación de la explotación cauchera amazónica, el cuarto centenario fue ocasión para producir una serie de discursos sin precedentes sobre la peruanidad y la Amazonía.
