The educational intervention was designed in six sessions of 50 min. The frequency of plagiarism was high among the participants, which correlated negatively with the actions taken to prevent it independent of sex and academic performance. Ignorance of what is academic plagiarism, how to prevent it and procrastination were the most relevant causes. 71.4% of the students reduced their frequency of academic plagiarism, while 64.3% increase the frequency of actions to prevent it. This methodology is simple and quick in decision making to identify and reduce problems in the educational field.El objetivo del estudio fue desarrollar y evaluar los resultados de una estrategia para reducir el plagio académico en la Unidad Educativa Santana. La muestra estuvo constituida por 39 estudiantes (56,4 % mujeres) de primer año de bachillerato del curso 2018-2019 que respondieron a un formulario online diseñado para recoger información sobre la frecuencia de plagio académico y las acciones para prevenirlo, así como los factores más importantes que puedan ocasionarlo. La intervención educativa se diseñó en seis sesiones de 50 min. La frecuencia de plagio fue elevada entre los participantes, lo que se correlacionó negativamente con las acciones realizadas para prevenirlo independiente del sexo y rendimiento académico. El desconocimiento de lo que es plagio académico, cómo prevenirlo y la procrastinación fueron las causas más relevantes. El 71,4 % de los estudiantes redujo su frecuencia de plagio académico, mientras que el 64,3 % aumentó en el número acciones para prevenirlo.
