Descriptive analyses and logistic regressions were performed to determine odds ratios (OR) and their 95 % confidence intervals (95 % CI). The study evaluated the association between alcohol consumption and various sociodemographic, economic and health variables, as well as general and academic stress, fear of COVID-19, third-party provision of alcohol and perceived ease of access to alcohol. Results: A total of 43.6 % of respondents reported consuming alcohol between March and June 2020. Among these, 32.1 % engaged in excessive alcohol consumption and 22.3% experienced episodes of drunkenness. In addition to assessing alcohol consumption in the 12 months preceding the early stage of lockdown, minimal differences were observed in alcohol consumption rates between men and women. During the lockdown, 43.8 % of students reduced their alcohol consumption, while 46.4 % maintained their pre-lockdown consumption levels. Significant associationswere found between alcohol consumption and high levels of general stress (aOR = 2.33; 95 % CI: 1.13-4.75), third-party provision of alcohol (aOR = 13.63; 95 % CI: 6.55-28.3) and perceived ease of access to alcohol (aOR = 4.49; 95 % CI: 1.96-10.3). Conclusions: During the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic, alcohol consumption among university students was significantly associated with high levelsof general stress, third-party provision of alcohol and perceived ease of access to alcohol. Despite lockdown restrictions, nearly half of the students maintained their pre-pandemic alcohol consumption levels. These findings highlight the need for targeted prevention and intervention strategies addressing alcohol consumption within the university setting.

Materiales y métodos: Estudio transversal y analíticocon encuesta en línea a 257 estudiantes. Se realizaron análisis descriptivos y regresiones logísticaspara determinar la oportunidad relativa (OR) y sus intervalos de confianza al 95 % (IC 95 %), paralo cual se evaluó la asociación del consumo de alcohol con variables sociodemográficas, económicas,sanitarias, estrés general y académico, miedo a la COVID-19, ofrecimiento de alcohol y accesibilidadpercibida. Resultados: El 43,6 % de los encuestados informó haber consumido alcohol entre marzo yjunio del 2020. De estos, el 32,1 % presentó un consumo intensivo de alcohol y el 22,3 % declaró episodios de embriaguez. Además del consumo de alcohol en los doce meses previos a la primera etapa de la cuarentena, se observaron pocas diferencias en las proporciones de consumo de alcohol entre hombres y mujeres. Durante la cuarentena, el 43,8 % de los estudiantes consumidores redujo su consumo y el 46,4 % mantuvo su consumo igual al periodo previo a la cuarentena. Se encontró una asociación significativa entre consumo de alcohol y nivel alto de estrés general (ORa = 2,33; IC 95 %: 1,13-4,75), ofrecimiento de alcohol por terceros (ORa = 13,63; IC 95 %: 6,55-28,3) y percepción de fácil acceso al alcohol (ORa = 4,49; IC 95 %: 1,96-10,3). Conclusiones: Durante la primera etapa de la pandemia de la COVID-19, el consumo de alcohol entre los estudiantes universitarios estuvo significativamente asociado con niveles altos de estrés general, la oferta de alcohol por parte de terceros y la percepción de fácil acceso al alcohol. A pesar de las restricciones de la cuarentena, casi la mitad de los estudiantes mantuvo su consumo de alcohol al mismo nivel que antes de la pandemia. Estos hallazgos resaltan la necesidad de implementar estrategias preventivas y de intervención específicas para abordar el consumo de alcohol en el contexto universitario.Objetivo: Identificar a prevalência, características e fatores associados ao consumo de álcool em estudantes universitários de Lima Metropolitana durante a primeira fase da pandemia COVID-19 no Peru, que se estendeu de 16 de março a 30 de junho de 2020. Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo transversal, descritivo e analítico, utilizando um questionário online. A amostra foi composta por 257 estudantes universitários. Foram realizadas análises descritivas e regressões logísticas para determinar as razões de probabilidade (OR) e seus intervalos de confiança de 95% (IC 95%). Essas análises permitiram avaliar a associação do consumo de álcool durante a primeira fase da pandemia com diversas variáveis. Essas variáveis incluíram aspectos sociodemográficos, o contexto econômico e de saúde associado à COVID-19, o estresse geral, o medo da COVID-19, o estresse acadêmico, a oferta de álcool e a percepção de fácil acesso ao álcool. Resultados: Os resultados revelaram que 43,6% dos participantes relataram ter consumido álcool no período entre março e junho de 2020. Dentro deste grupo, verificou-se que 32,1% apresentaram consumo intensivo de álcool e que 22,3% declararam ter tido episódios de embriaguez. Além do consumo de álcool nos doze meses anteriores à primeira fase da quarentena, foram observadas poucas diferenças nas proporções de consumo de álcool entre homens e mulheres. Durante a primeira fase da quarentena, 43,8% dos estudantes universitários que consumiram álcool relataram ter reduzido seu consumo, enquanto 46,4% indicaram que seu consumo permaneceu o mesmo que o período anterior à quarentena. Foi encontrada uma associação significativa entre o consumo de álcool durante a primeira fase da pandemia e um alto nível de estresse geral (aOR = 2,33; IC 95%: 1,13-4,75), a oferta de álcool por terceiros (aOR = 13,63; IC 95%: 6,55-28,3) e a percepção de fácil acesso ao álcool (aOR = 4,49; IC 95%: 1,96-10,3). Conclusões: O uso de álcool durante o isolamento social obrigatório correspondente à primeira fase da pandemia COVID-19 foi associado a altos níveis de estresse geral, com a oferta de álcool por terceiros e com uma percepção de fácil acesso ao álcool. Esses achados ressaltam a importância crucial de projetar e implementar programas preventivos e intervenções breves para abordar o uso de álcool no ambiente universitário.Universidad de San Martín de Porres.
