In this study, the Taita Cristo (1964) account will be analyzed from the perspective of death. In this sense, the previous aspect will be taken as knowledge related to the oral popular tradition, evoked in the dialogues of the characters and the plot development. Likewise, the function of orality will be highlighted, a prominent issue in the author's book due to its ability to articulate different themes, including the particular ritual nature of death seen from the Andean perspective. For our purposes, the stories “El tuco y la paloma” and “El desconocido” will be examined.Eleodoro Vargas Vicuña es considerado uno de los más grandes narradores de la generación del 50 y de la literatura peruana en un ámbito general. En el presente estudio se analizará el cuentario Taita Cristo (1964) desde la perspectiva de la muerte. En ese sentido, el aspecto anterior será tomado como un conocimiento relacionado con la tradición popular oral, evocado en los diálogos de los personajes y el desarrollo argumental. Igualmente se resaltará la función de la oralidad, asunto destacado en el libro del autor debido a su capacidad de articular distintas temáticas, entre ellas, el particular carácter ritual de la muerte contemplado desde la visión andina.
