description El objetivo de este artículo es ampliar el conocimiento acerca de un tópico no muy desarrollado, referido a la presencia de Túpac Yupanqui, “el Inca navegante”, como figura literaria, en el manuscrito Dioses y hombres de Huarochirí, un relato de naturaleza mitológica, constituido por la recopilación de leyendas y acontecimientos provenientes de tradiciones orales entre los antiguos habitantes de la provincia de Huarochirí en el año 1598. Esta narración se halla entre los límites de la ficción y la realidad, desarrollando la figura del Inca tanto como hombre y como deidad. El propósito es comprender la concepción que tenían de él sus ciudadanos, así como la relación de cooperación y complementariedad que había entre los gobernantes y las deidades a las que se les rendía culto. El alcance de este artículo es del tipo exploratorio debido a que es una aproximación inicial frente a un tema poco estudiado, utilizando antecedentes e investigaciones previas básicas y efectuando un análisis sobre las mismas. La metodología de investigación es cualitativa, porque busca comprender distintos conceptos mitológicos y reflexionar sobre la cosmovisión prehispánica. Se están utilizando como instrumentos el análisis de documentos etnográficos, registros históricos de cronistas y traducciones de quechua antiguo a español moderno. Se obtiene finalmente que tiene un sentido lógico y coherente que la población le dé ese valor debido a su status jerárquico y ontológico como Sapa Inca.

This is a mythological narrative composed of a collection of legends and events derived from oral traditions among the ancient inhabitants of the Huarochirí province in 1598. The story lies on the border between fiction and reality, portraying the Inca both as a man and as a deity. The aim is to understand how he was perceived by his people, as well as the relationship of cooperation and complementarity between rulers and the deities worshipped at the time. This article is exploratory in scope, as it constitutes an initial approach to a scarcely studied topic. It draws on previous background and basic research, offering an analysis of these sources. The research methodology is qualitative, as it seeks to understand various mythological concepts and reflect on the pre-Hispanic worldview. The study employs the analysis of ethnographic documents, historical records from chroniclers, and translations from ancient Quechua to modern Spanish as its main instruments.
