Además, ilustra como el paisaje del agua urbano en laderas afecta y está siendo afectada por la organización socio-espacial en el territorio. Los hallazgos del estudio de caso demuestran la existencia de sistemas alternativos autogestionados basados en las interrelaciones entre infraestructura de carácter formal-informal. Por ejemplo, un sistema comunitario de acceso al agua que permite la extensión progresiva de servicios a nivel barrial. Dicho sistema híbrido excede al saneamiento convencional de infraestructura para satisfacer las necesidades diarias e incluye una gestión comunitaria bajo acuerdos organizacionales-institucionales y tecnológicos para su distribución, regulación, y mantenimiento. La investigación contribuye a repensar la política hídrica del agua urbana hacia un saneamiento sostenible en asentamientos informales, quienes son las más vulnerables al cambio climático y a un futuro incierto de seguridad hídrica. Permitirá a las empresas de agua evaluar la implementación de sistemas híbridos de infraestructura hacia una gestión integral del agua en la periferia.

It follows an explorative and descriptive study through a case-based approach. To achieve that aim, the research gathers evidence from fieldwork in three barrios of the peri-urban settlement Jose Carlos Mariategui located in the district of San Juan de Lurigancho. The investigation illustrates how the urban waterscape shapes and is being shaped by the socio-spatial organization of the settlement, the everyday practices for basic water access and the current policy discourses of the water utility. Findings from the case study reveal the opportunities and challenges of progressive self-provision and community-led schemes. It demonstrates that heterogeneous systems for water access in hillsides draw generally from the interlinkages between formal-informal provisions such as public water standpipes with unofficial arrangements. Thus, hybrid service provision modalities emerge to secure daily needs. It is constructed by adaptation strategies, social behavior such as modes of contestation and trust, and institutional-organizational arrangements for operation and maintenance. The research seeks to contribute to the academic debates on water supply configurations in the global south and to deepen the understanding for sustained water provision in informal areas.Alemania.
