Sumario:Trout farming in Peru has seen significant growth, particularly in regions like Puno, Pasco, Huancavelica, and Junín (Mori, et al., 2023). However, there is a strong dependency on importing trout eggs, as local production remains uncompetitive and unsustainable (Vilcherrez, Pardo-Figueroa, & Huamaní, 2022). The key social issue is Peru's inability to produce enough trout eggs locally, leading to costly imports with high mortality rates, limiting the competitiveness and sustainability of the national aquaculture industry. The proposed solution, OVAPERU, focuses on establishing a national production of trout eggs with high productivity and low mortality rates. This approach not only addresses current challenges faced by Peruvian trout farmers but also maximizes growth and sustainability opportunities in the industry. Tests with local breeders have shown that it is possible to obtain embryonated eggs in 328 Accumulated Thermal Units (UTA), equivalent to 33 days, superior to the 270 UTA of imported eggs. The proposal of OVAPERU has strong support, with 62.1% of respondents fully agreeing on the need for local production and 37.9% agreeing, indicating robust acceptance and endorsement. The financial viability of OVAPERU is notable. The Present Value (PV) of the project is S/ 4,653,948, reflecting the anticipated future cash flows. The initial investment required is S/ 322,853.33, with a Net Present Value (NPV) of S/ 4,331,094.18, indicating significant value generation above the initial investment. The Internal Rate of Return (IRR) is 217.72+%, far exceeding the Weighted Average Cost of Capital (WACC) of 13.77%, demonstrating an attractive return on investment. OVAPERU's business aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2 (Zero Hunger) and 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). OVAPERU contributes to food security by increasing local trout production, providing an accessible and nutritious protein source. Reducing import dependency ensures a more stable and predictable trout supply in the local market. Environmentally, national production of trout eggs with high productivity and low mortality rates reduces waste and optimizes the use of natural resources, minimizing the carbon footprint and promoting more ecological production practices. The projected social cash flow for OVAPERU shows significant annual increases, starting with 536,204 soles in the first year and reaching 2,300,204 soles in the fifth year. Applying an 8% discount rate to value these future flows in present terms, a social NPV of 6,317,246.07 soles is obtained. This result underscores the social viability and positive impact of OVAPERU in generating community benefits and mitigating environmental costs.
