Publicación Especial, n° 9, 2010.Páginas 758-761.El área de estudio se ubica en la parte central de la cuenca del rió Colca entre las localidades de Tuti y Cabanaconde, poblados que forman parte de la provincia de Caylloma, departamento de Arequipa. El río Colca presenta variaciones en su dirección de recorrido, siendo de NE a SO en la cabecera de la cuenca, luego cambia a E-O (parte central) y finalmente desemboca hacia la costa pacífica con una dirección aproximadamente N-S. La parte central es donde el valle del río Colca se hace más amplio, generando una cuenca en forma elongada, forma que fue modelada por una dinámica activa asociada a glaciaciones, desglaciaciones, actividad volcánica y sísmica relacionada a reactivaciones de fallas.
