Resúmenes extendidos. Publicación Especial, n° 9, 2010.Páginas 684-688.El área de estudio se localiza en el centro del Perú, entre los paralelos 9º-10º 30’ de latitud sur y 78º–77º de longitud Oeste. Morfológicamente comprende la Cordillera Occidental, en la que se diferencia la Cordillera Negra al Oeste y la Cordillera Blanca hacia el Este. Ambas cordilleras están separadas por el Callejón de Huaylas donde tiene su origen el Río Santa. Esta zona despierta un gran interés geológico minero debido a que en ella se encuentra dos de las operaciones mineras más importantes del Perú. Hacia el lado de la Cordillera Blanca se tiene a Antamina que es un skarn de Cu-Zn; y, y hacia el lado de la Cordillera Negra está Pierina que es un yacimiento epitermal de Au-Ag, ambos en contextos geológicos totalmente diferentes (Figura 01).
