Publicación Especial, n° 9, 2010.Páginas 766-769.Durante la última década un tema de investigación es el Arco Volcánico Actual de los Andes Centrales, donde en base al cartografiado de sus depósitos volcánicos, estratigrafía, geoquímica, geocronología y hasta la aplicación de métodos geodésicos como la interferometría radar (InSAR) y GPS diferenciales, se intenta explicar cuáles son los mecanismos que controlan dicha cadena volcánica. El Arco Volcánico Actual del sur del Perú forma parte de la Cordillera Occidental, cuya elevación máxima es de 6000 m (Fig.1), este arco se ubica aproximadamente a 280 km de la fosa oceánica y se localiza a 115 km sobre el plano de Benioff-Wadati (Barazangi & Isacks, 1976). Esta cadena de volcanes está representado por estratovolcanes con un cráter central y domos, además de pequeños conos monogenéticos de escorias de lavas asociados con flujos <5 000 B.P (De Silva y Francis, 1991).
