Estos procesos geodinámicos pueden perdurar en el tiempo y comportarse aparentemente en forma estable, sin embargo indicios de carácter geológico y geomorfológico muestran que se encuentran en real movimiento de forma natural. Estos suelen ser incentivados o detonados por agentes externos de carácter natural como lluvias y sismos, o acciones del hombre (antrópico) como puede ser por la modificación de taludes, riego inadecuado, etc. (Zavala, 2008). Estudios de peligros geológicos en la región Lima (Fidel et al, 2006), caracterizan a la subcuenca del río Checras, como una zona de muy alta susceptibilidad a movimientos en masa, en los sectores entre el cerro Pucutura y Lagsaura (grandes depósitos de movimientos en masa antiguos: deslizamientos, flujos de detritos y derrumbes). Posteriormente Villacorta & Ochoa (2007), en el estudio geoambiental de la cuenca Huaura, reafirman al cerro Pucutura como una zona crítica.
