Resúmenes extendidos. Publicación Especial, n° 9, 2010.Páginas 627-630.El área de estudio está ubicada al noroeste del territorio peruano. Se enmarca en las coordenadas geográficas 77º 00’ - 79º 30’ de longitud Oeste y 6º 30’-10º 30’ de latitud Sur, entre los departamentos de Cajamarca, La Libertad y Ancash. Morfoestructuralmente comprende parte de la zona costera, cordillera occidental y el flanco oeste de la cordillera oriental. Las rocas más antiguas afloran en el lado oriental de la zona de estudio y corresponden al complejo metamórfico del Marañón; le sigue una alternancia de lutitas areniscas y calizas del Paleozoico (Gpos. Ambo, Mitu y Copacabana). El Mesozoico se manifiesta con una potente secuencia sedimentaria que tiene como base las lutitas grises de la Fm. Chicama, sobreyaciendo en discordancia angular se encuentran las rocas silicoclásticas del Gpo. Goyllarisquizga. El Cenozoico está representado por una cobertura volcánica del Gpo. Calipuy y está compuesta por secuencias de lavas y piroclastos intercalados con horizontes sedimentarios.
