The authorswish to thank the FLUKA scientific committee for useful commentsand suggestions, Jose Fernandes and Francisco Rumiche for the SEMmeasurements and Jorge Andrés Guerra, Patrizia Pereyra and DanielPalacios for useful discussions.Samples of two characteristic semiconductor sensor materials, silicon and germanium, have been irradiated with neutrons produced at the RP-10 Nuclear Research Reactor at 4.5 MW. Their radionuclides photon spectra have been measured with high resolution gamma spectroscopy, quantifying four radioisotopes (28Al, 29Al for Si and 75Ge and 77Ge for Ge). We have compared the radionuclides production and their emission spectrum data with Monte Carlo simulation results from FLUKA. Thus we have tested FLUKA’s low energy neutron library (ENDF/B-VIIR) and decay photon scoring with respect to the activation of these semiconductors. We conclude that FLUKA is capable of predicting relative photon peak amplitudes, with gamma intensities greater than 1%, of produced radionuclides with an average uncertainty of 13%. This work allows us to estimate the corresponding systematic error on neutron activation simulation studies of these sensor materials.Consejo Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación Tecnológica - ConcytecengElsevierNuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipmentinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccesshttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Nuclear reactorsChemical activation-1Emission spectroscopy-1Germanium-1Intelligent systems-1Intelligent systems-1Monte Carlo methods-1Neutron activation analysis-1Neutron irradiation-1Neutrons-1Nuclear engineering-1Testing FLUKA on neutron activation of Si and Ge at nuclear research reactor using gamma spectroscopyinfo:eu-repo/semantics/articlereponame:CONCYTEC-Institucionalinstname:Consejo Nacional de Ciencia Tecnología e Innovacióninstacron:CONCYTEC#PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE#20.500.12390/612oai:repositorio.concytec.gob.pe:20.500.12390/6122025-09-23 15:31:19.712https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccesshttp://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_14cbinfo:eu-repo/semantics/closedAccessmetadata only accesshttps://repositorio.concytec.gob.peRepositorio Institucional CONCYTECrepositorio@concytec.gob.pe#PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE#<Publication xmlns="https://www.openaire.eu/cerif-profile/1.1/" id="3cbaa300-af62-46ba-b060-bc8b2cfe75c2"> <Type xmlns="https://www.openaire.eu/cerif-profile/vocab/COAR_Publication_Types">http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_1843</Type> <Language>eng</Language> <Title>Testing FLUKA on neutron activation of Si and Ge at nuclear research reactor using gamma spectroscopy</Title> <PublishedIn> <Publication> <Title>Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment</Title> </Publication> </PublishedIn> <PublicationDate>2018</PublicationDate> <DOI>https://doi.org/10.1016/j.nima.2017.12.042</DOI> <SCP-Number>2-s2.0-85039430288</SCP-Number> <Authors> <Author> <DisplayName>Bazo J.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp01218" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Rojas J.M.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp01220" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Best S.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp01219" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Bruna R.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp01221" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Endress E.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp01212" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Mendoza P.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp01222" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Poma V.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp01223" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Gago A.M.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp00854" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> </Authors> <Editors> </Editors> <Publishers> <Publisher> <DisplayName>Elsevier</DisplayName> <OrgUnit /> </Publisher> </Publishers> <License>https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/</License> <Keyword>Nuclear reactors</Keyword> <Keyword>Chemical activation</Keyword> <Keyword>Emission spectroscopy</Keyword> <Keyword>Germanium</Keyword> <Keyword>Intelligent systems</Keyword> <Keyword>Intelligent systems</Keyword> <Keyword>Monte Carlo methods</Keyword> <Keyword>Neutron activation analysis</Keyword> <Keyword>Neutron irradiation</Keyword> <Keyword>Neutrons</Keyword> <Keyword>Nuclear engineering</Keyword>
Samples of two characteristic semiconductor sensor materials, silicon and germanium, have been irradiated with neutrons produced at the RP-10 Nuclear Research Reactor at 4.5 MW.
