The authors finally acknowledge the support of the Laboratory of Materials at PUCP for providing access to their facilities and equipment. The paper deals with the mechanical characterization of the materials that composes the structural system of the archaeological earthen complex of ‘Huaca de la Luna’ in Perú (100–900A.D.). The mechanical characterization was carried out through uniaxial compression, three-point bending and splitting tests. The results indicate differences in bricks and mortar samples in strength capacity and elastic stiffness in compression, as well as differences in rupture modulus and diametric compression strength. The study contributes to understand the linear and nonlinear behavior of archaeological earthen materials and structures and provides reference values for the structural assessment of similar buildings and monuments.Consejo Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación Tecnológica - ConcytecengElsevier LtdCase Studies in Construction Materialsinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccesshttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/Uni-axial compressionBending tests-1Brick-1Mortar-1Archaeological heritage-1Diametric compression-1Earthen buildings-1Mechanical characterizations-1Structural assessments-1Structural component-1Three point bending-1Characterization-1https://purl.org/pe-repo/ocde/ford#2.01.00-1Mechanical characterization of the structural components of Pre-Columbian earthen monuments: Analysis of bricks and mortar from Huaca de la Luna in Perúinfo:eu-repo/semantics/articlereponame:CONCYTEC-Institucionalinstname:Consejo Nacional de Ciencia Tecnología e Innovacióninstacron:CONCYTEC#PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE#20.500.12390/689oai:repositorio.concytec.gob.pe:20.500.12390/6892024-05-30 15:36:00.093https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccesshttp://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_14cbinfo:eu-repo/semantics/closedAccessmetadata only accesshttps://repositorio.concytec.gob.peRepositorio Institucional CONCYTECrepositorio@concytec.gob.pe#PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE#<Publication xmlns="https://www.openaire.eu/cerif-profile/1.1/" id="489d3845-b8b3-4b47-866d-407a46c0ff61"> <Type xmlns="https://www.openaire.eu/cerif-profile/vocab/COAR_Publication_Types">http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_1843</Type> <Language>eng</Language> <Title>Mechanical characterization of the structural components of Pre-Columbian earthen monuments: Analysis of bricks and mortar from Huaca de la Luna in Perú</Title> <PublishedIn> <Publication> <Title>Case Studies in Construction Materials</Title> </Publication> </PublishedIn> <PublicationDate>2017</PublicationDate> <DOI>https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cscm.2016.11.003</DOI> <SCP-Number>2-s2.0-84997132554</SCP-Number> <Authors> <Author> <DisplayName>Aguilar R.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp00404" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Montesinos M.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp01252" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Uceda S.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp01570" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> </Authors> <Editors> </Editors> <Publishers> <Publisher> <DisplayName>Elsevier Ltd</DisplayName> <OrgUnit /> </Publisher> </Publishers> <License>https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/</License> <Keyword>Uni-axial compression</Keyword> <Keyword>Bending tests</Keyword> <Keyword>Brick</Keyword> <Keyword>Mortar</Keyword> <Keyword>Archaeological heritage</Keyword> <Keyword>Diametric compression</Keyword> <Keyword>Earthen buildings</Keyword> <Keyword>Mechanical characterizations</Keyword> <Keyword>Structural assessments</Keyword> <Keyword>Structural component</Keyword> <Keyword>Three point bending</Keyword> <Keyword>Characterization</Keyword>
The paper deals with the mechanical characterization of the materials that composes the structural system of the archaeological earthen complex of ‘Huaca de la Luna’ in Perú (100–900A.D.).
