Sumario:This article presents a systematic review of the physical and mechanical properties of traditional, stabilized, and reinforced adobe, evaluated against the E.080 Standard (Ministerial Resolution No. 121-2017-VIVIENDA) and ASTM C67. Variables such as clay matrix, chemical stabilizers (cement, metakaolin, asphalt emulsion, mucilage), fibrous reinforcements (bamboo, sisal, agave, GFRP, glass mesh), compaction, and testing protocols in Latin American and African contexts are examined. The findings indicate that traditional adobe has densities of 1690–1700 kg/m³ and an average absorption of 15.2%; stabilized adobe reduces absorption to 2.7–17.73% with a compressive strength of 15.33–45.90 kg/cm². The reinforced concrete achieves up to 137 kg/cm² in compression, 4.79 kg/cm² in tension, and 15.3 kg/cm² in bending. This synthesis identifies patterns of greater than 7-fold increase in load-bearing capacity with optimal additives, although it reveals inconsistencies. Overall, the seismic-resistant and sustainable potential of modified adobe is highlighted, underscoring the need for standardized testing for its integration into building codes.
