This is clear, without before, dimensioning the environmental issue in its substantive operations and consolidating Sustainable Development (SD) inside and outside its space. In this journey, part of the theoretical-documentary analysis that takes into account the tensions faced inside and outside the university model is used. The results show a special emphasis on the tendencies to green the University Higher Education (ESU), a challenge of the first term that has not finished when defining its objectives. However, although this preparatory scenario was important to further delineate adaptive measures against CC in the substantive functions of the university. Currently, that challenge must be overcome. For this, it will not only be necessary to consolidate an Environmental Education (EA) and SD or to calibrate environmental efforts in the attempt to attenuate global tension, but also to find a more sustainable university model and, at the same time, to neutralize the CC impact. Keywords: climate change – environment – higher education – sustainable development – universitiesEste estudio tiene el propósito de realizar un recorrido preliminar sobre los diferentes propósitos que ha dispuesto la universidad peruana desde que se implementó el reto de institucionalizar la temática ambiental, y posteriormente, el de instalar en su estructura más profunda el Cambio Climático (CC) como principal desafío en el terreno de la Educación Superior (ES). Esto claro, sin antes, dimensionar el tema ambiental en sus operaciones sustantivas y de consolidar el Desarrollo Sostenible (DS) dentro y fuera de su espacio. En ese trayecto, se parte del análisis teórico-documental que diese cuenta de las tensiones existentes al interior y afuera del modelo universitario. Los resultados muestran un especial énfasis en las tendencias de ambientalizar la Educación Superior Universitaria (ESU), un reto de primer término que no ha terminado al momento de definir sus objetivos. No obstante, si bien este escenario preparatorio fue importante para ulteriormente delinear en las funciones sustantivas de la universidad medidas adaptativas frente al CC. Actualmente, ese desafío debe ser superado. Para ello, no solo será necesario de consolidar una Educación Ambiental (EA) y de DS o de calibrar esfuerzos ambientales en el intento de atenuar la tensión global, sino también, de encontrar un modelo universitario más sostenible y referente, al tiempo, de neutralizar el impacto del CC. Este estudio tiene el propósito de realizar un recorrido preliminar sobre los diferentes propósitos que ha dispuesto la universidad peruana desde que se implementó el reto de institucionalizar la temática ambiental, y posteriormente, el de instalar en su estructura más profunda el Cambio Climático (CC) como principal desafío en el terreno de la Educación Superior (ES).
