Sumario:Retrospective study Cayetano Heredia National Hospital between January 1991 and April 1993 in 972 products evaluated by ultrasound. The objective was to determine the accuracy of ultrasound level performed in the second trimester, in the detection of neural tube defects in the general population. To do ultrasound findings correlate with the clinical evaluation of the newborn. A detection rate of neural tube defects in 90% (96/100), specificity of 99.6% (958/964) false  positive rate of 30% (4113) and false negative rate of 0.1 was found % (1959). 100% of anencephaly is detected.
