RESTRUCTURATION OF QUECHUA WORDS IN SPANISH: A MORPHOLOGICAL DESCRIPTION

Spanish contains a group of words derived from Quechua which have, in fact been restructured by the morpho-phonological patterns of Spanish. This production, quite evident from the linguistic contact of Spanish and Quechua has increased Spanish vocabulary with the new lexical contribution of Quechua. We present here the changes that Quechua words have gone through when incorporated into Spanish in a systematic manner. Specifically this is a synchromatic description of the phonological and morphological phenomena which may be seen in the words recorded in the Dictionary of the Spanish Language (DRAE, [twenty second edition]).
El castellano presenta un conjunto de vocablos provenientes del quechua, los cuales han sido reestructurados por los patrones morfofonológicos del castellano. Este producto, evidente del contacto lingüístico quechua-castellano, ha supuesto un incremento del repertorio vocabular hispano, nutrido a partir del aporte léxico del quechua. Se presentan de manera sistemática los cambios que se han producido en las voces quechuas al ser incorporadas al castellano. De manera específica, presentamos una descripción sincrónica de los fenómenos fonológicos y morfológicos evidenciados en las palabras registradas en el Diccionario de la lengua española (DRAE [22.a edición]).
