In some edifications lifted up starting from the XVI Century, there are ancient stones that show on their surfaces enigmatic incisions, elements that belong to the religious and ritual Andean World. There are many important traces of these cultural expressions in Cusco than, by their relation with particular urban spaces, some architectonic typologies from the Virreinato or Inka's antique sacred contexts, can attach them magician and religious contents. This fact confirms the continuity of the sacred entities of the Andes in the established occidental architecture.

This article addresses and explains the critical analysis of the conservation and restoration interventions carried out by the Ministry of Culture (in the period between 2006 and 2012) in the Santa Ana Church of Cusco (Peru). The achievements are weighed, as well as the coherence of its results and achievements, and their absences in terms of the restitution of the full conception of the building. This is done in order to have a body of methodological experiences that express the aspects that led to the comprehensive recovery of its material testimonies and the implicit values of the monument, within the panorama of the patrimonial conservation realized in the city of Cusco and the region. Los cerros que definen al valle del Cusco han sido considerados sagrados dentro del contexto mágico-religioso andino, lo que indujo a su ocupación. Dichos accidentes geográficos —reverenciados como apus, wakas y paqarinas— constituyeron los escenarios en los que se protagonizaron importantes acontecimientos históricos y míticos. Como elementos tangibles y reales, enraizaron y fortalecieron a los diferentes ayllus y grupos humanos del valle durante la hegemonía andina prehispánica.

La intervención restaurativa sobre los bienes del patrimonio cultural requiere de una actuación profesional responsable y sensible. Un proceder cuidadoso y meditado que debe tener como meta final la preservación física del edificio garantizando la conservación de la autenticidad de sus valores. Las presentes líneas abordan un breve comentario a la intervención integral del templo de San Francisco de Asís de Ayaviri (Melgar, Puno), valiosa experiencia enfocada en la conservación de uno de los testimonios representativos de la arquitectura virreinal en el altiplano.
