The aim of the study was to determine the relative in vitro ARNm expression levels of IL-2 and IL-10 in peripheral blood leukocytes by real time RT-PCR and relative quantification using the 2-ΔΔCt method in presence of clostridial antigens and GAPDH as an endogenous control. Whole blood was collected from 10 adult alpacas. Samples were centrifuged to obtain leukocytes using the Ficoll reagent, purified with ammonium chloride and cultured in 24-well plates at a concentration of 500 000 live cells/ml minimal essential medium (MEM) with clostridial extract suspensions at concentrations of 400, 16, 0.8 and 0.2 µg/ml. Subsequently, the RT-qPCR test was performed. The aim of this paper is to analyze the new Law of Animal Protection and Welfare in Peru which is based on the need to establish a law that promotes the defense and ensures the protection and welfare of animals regardless of species as well as the biodiversity conservation. Furthermore, some scopes of legislations enacted in other American countries and suggestions needed to be implemented in the short to medium term are given.

El presente artículo de revisión tiene por objeto analizar la nueva Ley 30407 «Ley de Protección y Bienestar Animal en el Perú», fundamentada en la necesidad del país de establecer una ley que promueva la defensa y garantice la protección y bienestar de los animales sin distinción de especie, así como la conservación de la biodiversidad. Asimismo, se brindan alcances de leyes similares promulgadas en otros países del continente americano y sugerencias necesarias de ser implementadas a futuro en un corto o mediano plazo.

The aim of this study was to determine the seroprevalence of anti-Toxoplasma gondiiantibodies in alpacas of a breeding centre in the province of Canchis, Cusco, Peru, by theindirect inmunofluorescence technique (IFAT) using a cut off of 1:200. A total of318blood samples were collected from female alpacas. The seroprevalence was of 25.8 ± 4.8% (82/318). Out of 82 positive sera, 62.2% showed titres of 1:200. El objetivo del presente estudio fue determinar la seroprevalencia de anticuerpos anti-Toxoplasma gondii en alpacas de un centro de crianza de la provincia de Canchis, Cusco, Perú, mediante la técnica de inmunofluorescencia indirecta (IFI), empleando un punto de corte de 1:200. Se recolectaron 318 muestras de sangre de alpacas hembras de1 a 13 años de edad. La seroprevalencia fue de 25.8 ± 4.8% (82/318). De los 82 sueros positivos, el 62.2% presentó títulos de 1:200. Los resultados obtenidos ratifican la presencia de anticuerpos específicos frente al T. gondii en alpacas de Cusco.
