The study aimed to characterize the follicular emergence and determine the repeatability of the follicular wave in alpacas. For this, 34 female alpacas were selected and induced to ovulation by parenteral application of buserelin acetate (day 0). Two days after the hormonal stimulation, individual follicular development was recorded by counting the total number of antral follicles >3 mm in both ovaries. For this, an inter-daily transrectal ultrasound follow-up was done for 60 days. It was determined that the emergence of the follicular wave occurred on day 4.5 ± 1.4 (range 2-8). The number of antral follicles (NAF) >3 mm during three consecutive follicular emergencies was 2.8 ± 1.3 (range 1-8). Despite having a great similarity (p>0.05) in the NAF >3 mm during three successive follicular emergencies there is a significant difference in the average number of emerging follicl...

The aim of this study was to determine the presence of canine anaplasmosis by haematological findings (evidence of inclusion bodies or morulae in blood smear plus thrombocytopenia) and the presence of antibodies against Anaplasma spp in dogs with a history of ticks from the Chiclayo district (Lambayeque, Peru). Blood samples (n=88) were collected from apparently healthy dogs with a history of ticks. The haematological findings showed that 2.3% (2/88) of dogs were positive (with inclusion bodies or morulae plus thrombocytopenia) being compatible with A. platys. In addition, 22.7% (20/88) seropositivity against Anaplasma spp and a multiple seropositivity of 21.6% (19/88) with Ehrlichia spp were detected by the SNAP 4Dx Plus Test. Positive and seropositive dogs showed thrombocytopenia and, to a lesser extent, anaemia, leucocytosis and leukopenia. The results showed presence of subclinical c...

The present study aimed to identify morphologically and molecularly the ticks of dogs with ehrlichiosis in the Chiclayo district (Lambayeque, Peru). A total of 297 ticks from 74 dogs were collected and morphologically identified as Rhipicephalus sanguineus s.l. Nine specimens were used for molecular identification using the 16S rDNA ribosomal gene. The sequences obtained were aligned with sequences of R. sanguineus s.l. from Brazil and Colombia (Northern Lineage), Argentina, Chile and Uruguay (Southern Lineage), Spain, Italy and South Africa, showing a genetic divergence of 0-0.3% and 6.1-6.8% with the Northern Lineage and Southern Lineage, respectively. The phylogenetic analysis grouped the sequences of Peru with those of the Northern Lineage and South Africa, segregating them from the sequences of the Southern Lineage and Europe. The results show that R. sanguineus s.l. from Chiclayo, ...
