Mixed WO3 – CuWO4 films have been prepared from aqueous solution of copper sulfate and polytungsten gel with molar ratio Cu/W from 0 to 100 %. These solutions were sprayed onto alumina substrates at 220 ºC. The obtained films were amorphous, and crystallized after an annealing at 300 °C in air for 3 h. The annealed films were composed by a mixture of CuWO4 and WO3 phases. The film obtained from a solution with an equimolar ratio of Cu/W was a pure CuWO4. The pure WO3 films obtained have a high surface “irregularities” (eventually the porosity). Those surface “irregularities” in the films were maintained or eventually increased as Cu/W molar ratio augments in the starting solution up to 10%. The gas sensitivities to butanol and ethanol vapors are also enhanced when the CuWO4 phase increases in the film up to 7% - 10%; further increments to this proportion the detection sensiti...

PURPOSE: Infections are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with multiple myeloma (MM). In Latin America, data on infectious complications in this patient population are lacking. METHODS: We conducted a prospective cohort study of patients with newly diagnosed MM (NDMM) in seven Latin American countries between June 2019 and May 2020. Patients with active disease, on active therapy, and with a follow-up of 6 months from the time of diagnosis were included. Our primary end point was the number of infectious events that required hospitalization for ≥ 24 hours. RESULTS: Of 248 patients with NDMM, 89 (35.9%) had infectious complications (113 infectious events), the majority (67.3%) within the first 3 months from diagnosis. The most common sites of infection were respiratory (38%) and urinary tract (31%). The microbial agent was identified in 57.5% of patients with gr...

PURPOSE Women with pathogenic variants (PVs) in breast cancer (BC) and ovarian cancer (OC) associated genes are candidates for cancer risk-reducing strategies. Limited information is available regarding risk-reducing surgeries (RRS) among Hispanics. The aim of this study was to describe the uptake of RRS in an international real-world experience of Hispanic women referred for genetic cancer risk assessment (GCRA) and to identify factors affecting uptake. METHODS Between July 1997 and December 2019, Hispanic women, living in the United States or in Latin America, enrolled in the Clinical Cancer Genomics Community Research Network registry were prospectively included. Demographic characteristics and data regarding RRS were obtained from chart reviews and patient-reported follow-up questionnaires. Median follow-up was 41 months. RESULTS Among 1,736 Hispanic women referred for GCRA, 27.2% wo...
