Technology is playing a key role in the global challenge what the pandemic caused by COVID-19 means. Societies, using remarkable resilience, embraced digital tools for continuity of their activities and, to the extent possible, achieved positive results in productive, business, educational, social spheres, among others.

Digitally hyperconnected, and increasingly techno-dependent, humanity travels on a high-speed train called the Internet. Still not sure where heading, how to stop, change course, or pause in one of the infinite stations that make up cyberspace. However, despite to this initial bewilderment and to setbacks such as that of Cambridge Analytica in 2018, the average netizen doesn’t seem to have any intention of backing down or stop midway, despite how uncertain it is. At least to short and medium term there are no plans to buy the return ticket.

Society and its multiple faces seem to be going through, for some time now, a few decades, an increasingly changing, and sometimes unpredictable future, in a framework where technology marks and defines the beat of the times.The challenges and opportunities that cyberspace poses to different areas of human development, the ups and downs and warnings in the most unstabledemocracies, as well as the appearance of leaders with messianic airs, backed by millions of followers (in the streets and social networks), make up a scenario to which it is necessary take the pulse continuously, to understand where we are, where we have come from come and what are the potential ways forward.

The importance of investigating the political discourse of a country lies in understanding the intrinsic complexity of political communication directed by its leaders. Hence, the importance of expanding the previous analysis of presidential speeches in Peru, transmitted in real time through the media, which is the objective of this study. For this purpose, the time frame is delimited between 2018 and 2023, covering a linguistic corpus that exceeds 105 000 words, distributed in 60 speeches made by five political leaders. With the application of a methodology that merges the ethnography of communication and the analysis of lexical frequencies, we seek to understand the communicative dynamics, semantic values and content of these speeches. This article presents an investigation about the posts made on Facebook by five important press media in Peru (El Comercio, Exitosa Noticias, Expreso, Peru21 and RPP Noticias) during the social crisis of that country which was produced after the failed coup d’état of former President Pedro Castillo. As part of the methodological strategy, a temporal frame of study was establi-shed, ranging from December 10, 2022, date when the protests began, until forty days later, on January 18, 2023. The pandemic caused by COVID-19, added to the proliferation of fake news on the Internet, reinforces the importance of the scientific study of communications for an adequate system of production, dissemination and consumption of information for the understanding of social agents.

Esta tesis analiza el tratamiento periodístico que ofrece Publimetro, como modelo de prensa gratuita en el Perú, a cuatro ejes temáticos de relevancia en un semestre determinado: de agosto de 2017 a enero de 2018. En este sentido, se revela la influencia de este periódico en jóvenes lectores residentes de Lima, cuyas edades están comprendidas entre los 15 y 25 años. A través de un marco teórico que incluye géneros periodísticos, estilos de redacción y teorías de influencia en el lector, se examina el contenido de Publimetro, evidenciando un tratamiento periodístico ágil, dinámico, con una redacción clara y de corte predominantemente informativo-objetivo; así como una efectiva distribución de ejemplares. Fórmula que, a su vez, promueve en los jóvenes lectores un mayor acercamiento a la información, así como el interés por la realidad noticiosa en el país.

This article examines the role of transmedia journalism in the Peruvian newspaper La República during the week following the death of terrorist Abimael Guzmán. Among its objectives, it identifies the predominant characteristics of transmedia journalism in the construction of journalistic content disseminated on the media outlet’s digital platforms. Using the concepts of expansion, depth, and extractability, it studies how the different elements that constitute news contribute to the elaboration of information. This is a descriptive case study, with a predominantly qualitative and applied approach, focused on the digital platforms of the newspaper La República.
