Objectives: To determine the association between pregnancy in adolescence and its adverse impact on the mother and her newborn. Design: Non-concurrent cohort study. Setting: Hospital Regional de Huacho, Peru. Patients: Pregnant women 10-19 year-old. Interventions: The adolescent group consisted in 313 pregnant 10-19 year-old women, and the non-adolescent 944 20-34 year-old pregnant women. Data was obtained from the Hospital’s Perinatal Information System (SIP) in the first half of 2005. Relative risk (RR) with confidence interval 95% and chi-square (α = 0.05) were calculated by using SPSS 15.0 for Windows and Microsoft Office Excel 2007. Main outcome measures: Maternal and neonatal complications. Results: The adolescents mean age was 17.5±1.5 years and non-adolescent 25.5±4 years. Objective. The objective of this article is to describe the use of the social networks (TikTok and Twitter) in medical students at a private Peruvian university, as part of the group activity for the frst evaluation of the course: Health Promotion - Determinants. Methods. Descriptive and cross-sectional study, with a quantitative and qualitative focus. All students (60) registered in the course: Health Promotion - Determinants were included. El objetivo del artículo es describir el uso de las redes sociales (TikTok y Twitter) en estudiantes de medicina de una universidad privada peruana como parte de la actividad grupal de la primera evaluación de la asignatura de Promoción de Salud-Determinantes. An observational study was conducted to describe the presence of plagiarism in medical thesis in 2008 performed at a public university in Peru. Search for plagiarism in 33 thesis introductions using a Google search algorithm, characterizes of the study type and we search in electronic form if the thesis mentor have published articles in scientific journals. We found evidence of plagiarism in 27/33 introductions, 37.3% (171/479) of all the paragraphs analyzed had some degree of plagiarism, literal plagiarism was the most frequent (20/27) and journals were the most common sources of plagiarism (19/27). The characteristics of the studies were observational (32/33), cross-sectional (30/33), descriptive (25/33) and retrospective (19/33). Objective: To determine the validity of both adenosine diaminase (ADA) test and differential cell count for pleural tuberculosis diagnosis. Design: Retrospective study for diagnosis precision. Setting: Huacho Hospital, Ministerio de Salud, Huacho, Peru. Material: Medical records of patients with ADA test in pleural fluid. Interventions: Medical records study of patients with ADA test in pleural effusion performed from January 2005 through December 2007. ADA test values and differential cell counts were analyzed by ROC curve. Sensitivity (Se), specificity (Sp), predictive values (VPP and VPN) and likehood ratios (LRP and LRN) were found for each variable. Main outcome measures: ADA test cut-off point for pleural tuberculosis diagnosis. Se describe las características microbiológicas y anatomopatológicas de una serie de pacientes con bronquiectasias sangrantes que fueron negativos a tuberculosis, HIV y neoplasias, en estudios preliminares. Se desarrolló una evaluación microbiológica y anatomopatológica en búsqueda de hongos, tuberculosis, gérmenes comunes y neoplasia pulmonar, sobre 24 piezas operatorias de pacientes con hemoptisis por bronquiectasias sangrantes con antecedente de tuberculosis pulmonar o de contacto con personas que padecían esa enfermedad. El hongo Aspergillus es el principal y único agente infeccioso presente en los pacientes con bronquiectasia sangrante en este estudio.
