The following is a text that gathers one of the cultural traditions of the district of Andabamba, province of Acobamba and department of Huancavelica. This tradition, called Biga Wantuy, has its origin in the first decades of the last century when the people of this area fulfilled the obligation to provide food and fuel to the army stationed in Paucará (Huancavelica). In memory of one of these services, that of providing firewood, every year in the last week of September, the people of Andabamba celebrate the Biga Wantuy, which consists of carrying large cedar, walnut or alder beams over their shoulders from the Anco ravine, on the banks of the Mantaro River, to Andabamba. First of all, this study characterizes the structural system of the Quechua dialect spoken in the province of Santa (Ancash, Peru)), and focuses on the phonological level, the nominal and verbal morphology, as well as on aspects of its syntax (the structure of the phrase and nominal subordination). From the phonological and morphological features, it is established that this variety originates from the province of Huaylas and, that form there, it spreaded out towards the west up to its present location, in the communities in the districts of Jimbe and Moro.
