Children are the most vulnerable segment of this cyberphysical society and can be easily exploited due to their level of perception of cyber risk. Starting education and the development of digital skills at an early age encourages this population topursue professional careers such as cybersecurity in the future and contribute in a sustainable way to closing the gap in the workforce. Using a qualitative approach, a documentary review, a literature review, and consultation with academic experts are carried out to propose a digital literacy program at an early age. As a case study, the Digital Literacy Program of the International University of the Americas of Costa Rica and the experiences with the Cybersecurity Workshop for Children are presented. Workshop aimed at the development of digital skills, cyber well-being at an early age and children’s interest in following new professional c...

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a disruptive technology that has a significant impact on various aspects of society and the economy. Its rapid development has generated an urgent need to define and establish regulations that address the ethical, social and economic challenges that come with its adoption. The lack of adequate regulation carries the risk of discrimination and bias in AI-based decision-making, which could undermine public trust in this technology. This article aims to identify the key elements necessary to serve as a basis for the development of effective AI regulations. International regulations from the European Union, the United States, as well as initiatives from international organizations such as UNESCO, the OECD and the Economic Commission for Latin America (ECLAC) with its ILIA AI Strategy Index are taken into account. In addition, the specific case of Costa Rica is...

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the most important invention of humanity and we have it present in society and the economy, but it is also now impacting the academy where teachers and students make use of linguistic and interaction models such as ChatGPT and others. This study refers to surveys and research on the use and applications of AI. The results of a survey on AI training topics are shown, which was applied to teachers and university students in Costa Rica. A comparative analysis of the results is made and tables of both groups surveyed are presented. Additionally, basic guidelines are provided to formulate AI content and syllabus within the curriculum of a technology career. Finally, recommendations are given on the technical skills and competencies to be developed.

This article explores the development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the creation of assistants, agents, and collaborative platforms. Various applications and uses of AI are analyzed, highlighting their impact on education, industry, customer service, project management, and user experience. Three analogies are contrasted to describe and understand the application of AI in an organization: the Chef de Cuisine, the CMMI maturity model, and the Supply Chain. Methods and technologies for the development of these systems are examined, as well as technical challenges, risks, and ethical considerations in their implementation. Initiatives for AI assistants designed for university professors and AI agents in industrial processes are analyzed, exploring their functionalities and benefits. Figures and tables summarize the findings, and recommendations are provided for the impl...

The cybersecurity tree: a training proposal for citizens, institutions, and society in an increasingly interconnected world, cybersecurity has become a fundamental pillar for protecting critical information and ensuring the privacy of individuals, institutions, and society at large. The increase in cyberthreats, such as unauthorized access, malicious code injections, and attacks on critical systems, underscores the need for a comprehensive approach to digital security. This study is based on definitions and guidelines from the ISO/IEC 27032 cybersecurity standard, the ACM/IEEE CSEC2017 curriculum guide, and the IEEE-CS Enterprise IT Body of Knowledge (EITBOK). The “Cybersecurity Tree” model is proposed as a comprehensive training proposal aimed at strengthening information security competencies. The tree analogy provides a conceptual framework that distributes strategic tools across ...
