Objective. To determine the factors associated with sleep quality (SQ) in informal interprovincial road bus drivers of Lima-Huancayo central highway during January to March 2018. Methods. Cross-sectional study. Occupational and sociodemographic data were obtained. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was applied. Prevalence and factors associated with SQ were obtained. Results. 162 drivers took part in the study. The average age was 42 ± 10,2 years, 55,6% had a technical instruction education level, 42% were married and 55,6% had between two and three children, 54,9% were overweight and 32,1% had obesity. The average time of work experience as a driver was 17 ± 6,8 years; the average PSQI was 8,1 ± 3. The 89,6 % showed a high frequency of disturbed SQ with variable degrees. Age (p = 0,03) is the factor associated with SQ. Conclusion. There is a...

Introduction. The bioavailability of a nutrient reflects the fraction available to be absorbed and used. Is critical when evaluating the nutritional quality of a food. Objective. To compare the bioaccessibility of calcium between sesame (Sesamun indicum) and almond (Prunus amygdalus) with the bioaccessibility of calcium from cow’s milk using an in vitro method. Methods. An observational study that evaluated bioaccessibility using the in vitro dialyzability method. Results. Calcium dialysability of cow’s milk was 20,71%; in sesame and almond seeds it was 1% and 2,27%, respectively. It was determined that cow’s milk covers between 2% - 4% of the total calcium requirement in children 1 to 6 years of age and 2% in adolescents and adults. In seeds the coverage was minimal. Conclusions. The bioaccessibility and potential calcium contribution o...

Introduction: Spirometry is used to evaluate the respiratory function, relating the spirometric values (VE) obtained with predetermined VE. By recommendation, Peru uses the Mexican American population´s equations to obtain their predetermined VE. The population that live in high altitude have higher VE than the predetermined VE. On the other hand, obese people have alteration in respiratory dynamics. In overweight people who live in high altitude, the changes in their VE are unknown, reason that motivated this research. Objective: To Compare the VE obtained in overweight population that live in high altitude with the VE predetermined by the Mexican American population´s equations. Methods: Descriptive, correlational, retrospective study. We present 329 spirometries (239 males and 90 females), with quality grades A and B, performed in an occupational clinic from Huancayo, between Februa...

Introduction: Hypertrophic scarring in the skin represents a serious global public health problem, as it physically and emotionally affects people who suffer from it. This makes it necessary to investigate new alternatives for its prevention and treatment. The objective of the study was to compare the effect of Averrhoa carambola L. (star fruit) on the skin under an animal model of hypertrophic healing. Methods: Experimental study; 10 male New Zealand breed rabbits were used, between 3 and 4 months old, with an average weight of 3 to 3.5Kg. The creation of hypertrophic scars in the ears of rabbits was induced under the model described by Morris et al. One of the groups received 1 mL of a 10% aqueous solution of the lyophilized star fruit, while the other received 1 mL of triamcinolone acetate; in both groups the application was intralesional and weekly in a month. After the treatment, un...
