Art in early childhood education: An ineluctable needThe present essay focuses on the need for educational institutions, especially those working with early childhood, to recover art as a central issue in the education of young children, both in relation to the demands of the new century demands, as well in response to the most authentic needs of every human being. It also addresses the role of art in the development of inherent capacities not only to individual areas, linked to creativity, imagination, and the development of the scientific attitude, but those of social nature that include the construction of personal and cultural identity, as well as the skills required to live with others, and those leading to social change.

This article presents the results of a research developed during the course «Education and Social Harmony», from early childhood teachers specialty, which was offered from August to December 2013 by the Faculty of Education from thePontifical Catholic University from Peru (PUCP). The field work was in charge oftwenty three early childhood students. The study was delimited as an action ofsocial responsibility. It has as a premise to show the different points of view that children have from their districts. The study was developed in six early childhood institutions from Metropolitan Lima, three of them belong San Miguel district,and the rest from Miraflores district. The article aims to justify the need to reorient the teacher education process in order to produce changes in the educational practices in early childhood education level. From a critical perspective, it questions the theoretical career education away from life and concrete experiences of children, rethinking the centrality of play in the initial formation, not only as a theoretical reference carried out to improve learning processes, as it is in effect human and social life. At the same time, it emphasizes the emotional component as a key of change processes.

El artículo presenta los resultados del estudio desarrollado como parte del curso de Educación para la Convivencia que ofreció la Facultad de Educación de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), entre los meses de agosto adiciembre del año 2013. El trabajo de campo estuvo a cargo de las veintitrés estudiantes de la especialidad de Educación Inicial y se ejecutó como una acción de responsabilidad social universitaria, la cual tenía como premisa dar a conocerlas opiniones de los niños en cuanto al lugar donde viven. La presente tiene como fin evaluar la influencia del programa formativo en servicio dirigido a docentes de educación inicial de instituciones educativas públicas del distrito de Ventanilla, el cual fue desarrollado por el Proyecto Cometa, impulsado por la Asociación Sembrando Juntos. Esta investigación responde a los siguientes objetivos: identificar las condiciones que favorecen o limitan la ejecución del programa de formación en servicio del Proyecto Cometa y describir la percepción de las docentes participantes respecto a la mejora en sus interacciones para promover el desarrollo de las habilidades comunicativas y socioemocionales de los niños y niñas a su cargo.
