Mini-implants are metallic devices that are temporarily fixed to the bone and are used to achieve a wide variety of orthodontic movements. Today, they have become an important device that helps the orthodontist in all stages of treatment. The mini-implants are made with joints of different metals, so they are exposed to the corrosion process in the oral cavity. The release of ions can cause adverse physiological effects, including cytotoxicity, genotoxicity, carcinogenicity, and allergenic effects. This article seeks to review the corrosion of orthodontic mini-implants. The literature reports that the corrosion of mini-implants contributes to inflammation, which is a factor that influences the loss of these devices and the release of metal ions is one of its main causes. Additionally, corrosion can produce perforations and loss of thickness of the metal, which reduces the mechanical resi...

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a sleep disorder resulting from the narrowing and collapse of the upper airway. It has been associated with an increased risk of motor vehicle accidents, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases, making it a major public health issue. In recent years, intraoral mandibular advancement devices have gained popularity as an option for the treatment of snoring and OSA. These devices are well tolerated by most patients, and their therapeutic efficacy has been widely demonstrated. Against this background, it is important to know the advantages of their use, the treatment protocol, and their possible side effects.

The biological process of odontogenesis is complex, where molecular and cellular mechanisms participate at forming dental structures. The alteration of these mechanisms can cause dentigerous or follicular cysts, which are pathologies with abnormal cavities lined by epithelium and with liquid or semi-liquid content, usually surrounded by a layer of connective tissue; always associated with the crown of included teeth, they are asymptomatic and of slow evolution, discovered radiographically as a unilocular image and radiolucent. The large ones are infrequent and their treatment consists of complete surgical removal.

The health services system in Peru is fragmented and segmented, in this new century a coordinated and cooperative attitude is required among health professionals. Lip alveolus-palatine malformations are the most frequent congenital anomalies on the bucomaxillofacial region, affecting the growth and development of orofacial structures of two-thirds of the face, altering innate oral reflexes such as biting, sucking, swallowing and the capacity on the cavity buccal to allow pressure build-up. Adequate performance in health service is achieved with a shared vision and posture among the members of the work team, added to effective management, for which interprofessional collaborative practice requires paradigm changes, in which evidence is demonstrated substantial and irrefutable of a team culture and a reliable interdisciplinary environment, recognizing shared responsibility for results.
