The Casimiro Ulloa Hospital is a confined masonry structure more than 60 years old that does not satisfy the requirements of the Peruvian seismic code E.030 and it is located at high seismic zone. Therefore, this hospital is susceptible to collapse and becomes an essential deficient structure. Therefore, the present study is based on a comparative analysis between reinforced concrete wall and CFRP sheets through the nonlinear Push Over method in order to obtain which is the best reinforcement in structural capacity. The reinforcement with eight L-shaped concrete walls of 15 cm thick located at the corners of the structure, increased the strength of the hospital by 115% in longitudinal direction (Axis X) and 108% in transversal direction (Axis Y), and also increased the ductility by 3% and 117% in the directions respectively. The other reinforcement was carried out with CFRP sheets and an...

Currently at Peru tall building over 30stories began to be built. However, Peru structural design codes are based on medium and low-rise buildings. As well, posttension slab is used to these high rise buildings. The objective of this research was to evaluate the behavior of 6 high-rise buildings through nonlinear Pushover analysis. These buildings include rectangular and square floor plans of 40, 36 and 32 floors, and were designed considering the Peruvian regulations E 0.20 'Loads', E 0.30 'Earthquake Resistant Design' and E 0.60 'Reinforced Concrete'. Rigid core systems were used, varying the compressive strength of the concrete. Also 35 cm thick post-tensioned slabs were used as part lateral structural resistant system, which behavior presented high punching shear forces due earthquake loads. The results of the nonlinear pushover analysis show that the capacity curves are fragile beca...

Peru is a country with high seismic vulnerability due to its location in the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area of significant seismic activity. In this regard, although the Peruvian government has a disaster risk management plan in place, it is crucial to contribute to and identify those critical infrastructures (schools, hospitals, police and fire stations, emergency control centers, etc.) with a higher degree of seismic vulnerability. After their identification, a structural reinforcement plan can be implemented for these structures. For this reason, the study presents public schools with the highest degree of seismic vulnerability in Cercado de Lima, Lima, Peru. These were identified using the FEMA P-154 Rapid Visual Screening methodology, which focuses on quickly and economically assessing the seismic safety of a large inventory of buildings with minimal data requirements. Upon concludin...
